Tuscany on Lake Travis

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

A taste of Tuscany reflects off Lake Travis from atop a hill in Lakeway, Texas. A Texan's interpretation of Tuscan styling graces the exterior of this home with wide, bracketed overhangs, extending the windows' lifespan and protecting the home's interior from the hot Texas sun.

Careful placement of window openings gives the interior spaces a naturally inviting radiance during the day while at night the home's walls glow inside and out from carefully placed wall sconces, recessed cans, and other indirect lighting fixtures. The home's interior stays cool with lower-than typical air conditioning bills because of its highly efficient water tower assisted air-conditioning system.

The main view out the back is framed by a linear swimming pool and hot tub below and a large lattice covered arched opening above. A gentle breeze, tempered by surrounding trees, tames the hot sun and provides a screened-in "outdoor room"; a comfortable microclimate for taking in awesome views of the nature preserve it overlooks to the southeast. This room extends the outdoor season into the winter as its fireplace and stone columns cradle the occupants.

At the opposite side of the house, an arched portico shades the west wall of the Master Suite and provides an ideal retreat for the homeowners to share a bottle of wine while many sunsets warm their spirits.
